SOLARISATION

The ‘Solarisation Series’ consists of eleven solarised, layered paintings combining multiple images together. This series was created from several photoshoots inspired by Man Ray, specifically his use of solarisation and the female portrait. With the high level of distortion, the essence and identity of my model is removed, leaving only a representation. Combining layering and solarisation resulted in highly distorted, dynamic paintings with a high fashion feel.

This series focuses on the development of a portrayal of a more ‘surreal’ image, rather than just a pretty image of a woman. To further the distortion and create connotations, the white in a selection of the paintings is replaced with a bright, almost fluorescent blue or pink. This artificial appearing colour is inspired by the colour palette of high fashion magazines/advertisement.
